Evaluation Question 1

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

As you can see we decided to follow the Conventional Film Opening.

Evaluation Question 2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

For this Question we worked together as a group to complete.

Evaluation Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Evaluation Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

http://www.facebook.com/HayleyWilliamsLovesParamore

Our specific audience for our our film based on our USP is people of a young age due to the fact that the actors used in our Thriller Sub-Genre film are young which is different from other Thriller Sub-Genres as usually the actors are in their early Twenty's rather than Teenagers.

Evaluation Question 5

How did you attract/address your audience?

Evaluation Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Evaluation Question 7

Looking back at your Preliminary task, What do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Looking Back at our Preliminary Task we have learnt so much since then. The Pre-Production of our Prelim Clip was well organised. We thought about Soap Operas and what storyline's they where based on. We then agreed to base our Prelim Clip on a Soap like Storyline. We researched the 180 Degree Rule and applied this information to our Prelim Clip, therefore we made sure that we filmed left to right to portray the relationship between the two characters. We also did a Storyboard where we based our Prelim Clip camera shots on. We also organised the Props and locations to fit with our Storyline. We wanted a location that had a cosy feel to it to grab the sincere emotions being portrayed by the characters.

We filmed our Prelim Clip to the best of our Ability at the time with the knowledge that we knew of the Camera and Filming. I was confident enough to film but struggled performing the different types of camera shots. We enjoyed filming our Prelim Clip but realised that its not as easy as it looks! We were organised as we didn't require many props as they where not needed to portray what we were trying to get across.
The editing of our Prelim Clip was quite difficult as it was our first time using Final Cut Pro for a real Clip that we had filmed. We chose sound from Soundtrack Pro where we later imported into Final Cut Pro which played over our Prelim Clip. We added in text using Final Cut Pro. We chose a font that fitted with the Genre of our Prelim Clip which was Drama. The Match Cuts where quite hard to establish whilst we where editing our Prelim Clip in Final Cut Pro because there was a vast amount of unwanted Jump Cuts that occurred in our Prelim Clip.

The lighting was quite dark as the natural lighting that shone through the windows was not enough and the camera wasn't positioned in the correct place to make the natural light beneficial. Our Mise en Scene was not as successful as we'd hoped due to our lack of preparation time. We where not able to get accurate props or an accurate environment in the time we were given. The Match Cut where not accurate due to the Jump Cuts. Adding in titles were successful but they were not placed in the exact right order, so to an extent we did follow a traditional film opening as our director appeared last on the screen. The sound that we used was very appropriate as it fits with the emotions that we were trying to portray to our audience.

In our Prelim Clip we kept the Camera in one place and there wasn't a variety of shots. We also just kept the camera at the Filmer's height. The Match Cuts where very inadequate. Whereas in our Final Film we used a variety of shots and camera angles to portray the thoughts and feelings of the characters that we where trying to get across to the audience. We focused on a high quality of framing whilst filming so that we avoided having any wasted space in a shot. This shows that we are more advanced in our Camera shots and have the knowledge to use the camera more clearly.

The Lighting that is used in our Prelim Clip is natural light therefore the clip came out very dim. In our Final Film the lighting is quite bright as the camera is positioned differently and we made sure that any natural light that was being used is reflecting on the camera rather than behind it. We are now aware if the lighting and how much of an affect that it has on a piece of Film. We avoid any darkness being shown on the characters.

The use of Sound in our Prelim clip is only a track that has been added from Soundtrack Pro. In our Final Film we used a voice over that was Pre-Recorded by me using the Camera. We used a Sound from Soundtrack Pro to play over our Final Film that conveyed the sincere feelings that we wanted to express to our audience. The use of quick sound effects in our Final Film added in our use of Sub-Genre (Horror/Thriller) as these sound affects add in the horror side to our Opening. This shows that we can now use Soundtrack Pro in a more advanced way. We are also able to record voice overs and edit them using Soundtrack Pro which is much more Complex compared to the one Track that we used in our Prelim Clip. We have become more creative when adding in Sound.

Titles that we used in our Prelim Clip where unconventional as they didn't go in the correct order once appearing on the screen. Whereas in our Final Film we followed the Conventional title sequence. We where also reminded by Mary on various occasions to "remember to follow the conventional title sequence". This shows our understanding of film title sequences and how important they are to the making of a film.

The Mise en Scene that is used in our Prelim Clip is not accurate as there was not enough time to prepare. We used Props that suited the Mise en Scene and our Body Language suited the Storyline. This portrayed a clear enough picture for the audience to understand what had happened. In our Final Film we made SURE that the Mise en Scene was completely accurate. We made our Costumes have an Aslyum feel and we made the environment look very hospitalised. The Body Language conveyed the frustration that our characters where going through. We used a Prop which was a Teddy Bear that conveyed Childhood and innocence for the main character. This shows our increased understanding of Mise en Scene as it is vital to get it accurate in order to create an atmospheric environment.

In our Prelim Clip there was lots of unintentional Jump Cuts which therefore made editing our Prelim Clip quite difficult. We didn't use any transitions as we didn't have the knowledge of these effects to be able to apply them to our Clip. In our Final Film we did accurate Match Cuts and edited out any Jump cuts that we did not want to occur in our Opening. We also used fade in and fade out transitions to convey Flashbacks that our main character was having of her childhood and when she was placed in the Aslyum. This helped to express clearly to our audience the main characters state of mind. We are now able to use Final Cut Pro effectively to edit our Final Film due to our advanced knowledge of how it works. This also makes it much clearer to the audience the Storyline of our Final Film and what we are trying to portray with use of the effects.

I've learnt by doing both productions that it is vital to make everything accurate so that the film (when being played back) flows very smoothly. I've also learnt that Filming is not as easy as it looks, it requires time and enthusiasm to make a film come out precise and accurate.

Analysis of Film Advertisement

I noticed this advertisement in the Metro Newspaper and it was really intriguing and different to any film advertisements I’ve seen before. I figured that I might as well post a Blog about the film Advertisement and what it connotes to the viewers just by that one glance.

The main colour of this advertisement is a Sun Bleached Orange. This is the same colour as the Tiger used in this advertisement. By having an animal in this, it shows to the viewer that the film is focused on nature and animals. It also makes them assume that the films main location of filming is in some type of Wild Life in a hot country. They also have the young boy opposite the Tiger and the proxemics is quite close. This shows that there may be some type of relationship between the boy and the Tiger or the boy may be looking after the Tiger. The colours used in this are mainly bright and soft. The colour white that is used as the font colour of the film title connotes innocence from both the young boy and the animal. It also shows that the film is positive in some kind of way, whether it has a positive outcome or a positive start.

Rough Cut Feedback

Rough Cut of Thriller Film Opening

This is our Rough Cut for our Thriller Film Opening. We have added in Sound Effects to create more of a Horror/Thriller Feel to our Opening. We have more sound effects to add for out Final piece and to also play tension filled sound throughout. We like the Voiceover used at the end because we feel that it fits well with our opening due to the Storyline its based on. We hope to re-film two scenes in this opening as they weren't in focus on the Camera whilst filming. Overall, We are happy with our Rough-Cut.

Photos of Filming 'Bloody Tears'

These our photo's of our filming process for our Thriller Opening. We filmed in College on the Ground Floor as we wanted to get a Education Environment to show the changes in character for the Young Girl. This is also a contrast in scenery.

Updates on Ideas For Our Thriller Opening

As we are coming to the end of our Filming, as a group we sat down and discussed how we all feel about the Thriller Opening so far. We all agreed that its not going exactly to Plan and that we need to re-think some of our ideas. We developed the ideas that we came up with and have decided to change our Thriller Film opening Storyline Slightly;

Rather than the young girl waking up in the Asylum that she has been put it, She is walking on a normal day as an adult where she has Flash Backs of her past childhood which is being in the Asylum and searching two doors (rather than three) to find her meaning of herself. We have changed the beginning because we felt that its boring and very long. The Flash Backs of her past will also make the opening more exciteful and this will allow us to use more of a variety of Camera Shots. The Girl who she sees in the second door that she opening will walk past her in the park and then she will have a Flashback of when she opens the door and sees her in it. We Feel that by editing the Storyline it will stop a lot of the Jump Cuts that we don't want in our opening scene and it will also make it more like a Thriller Film.

Voiceovers for our Thriller Film Opening

This is our least perferred one as their isn't much emotion being portrayed in the voice. We would like the audience to feel a sense of sympathy when this voice over is being done.

This is the one we are not sure about as we feel like the voice speaks the content to fast therefore we miss the emotion being shown and it also defuses the object of the voice over.

This is our favourite one as it carries the most emotion being portrayed through the voice than all the others.

Photos of our First Filming

We first started Filming in the Corridor on the third floor of the College. This is a Wide Shot of us filming.

We then filmed in a room where we shot this Close up of Kavita to show her performing mental actions.

We then filmed my reaction to Kavitas mental actions that shows contrast of the two characters. When we started filming in this room, this is when we discovered that the Mise en Scene is incorrect and doesn't fit in with our piece.

First Filming of Bloody Tears

This is our First Filming of our Thriller Opening. We felt that there was a lot of Jump cuts in this filming and we tried to avoid them but it didn't go to plan. We also felt that the Mise en Scene didn't fit in with the whole Aslyum scene as it was quite opposite to a Aslyum. This was the main issue of this first filming as it didn't fit in with our Story line that we want our Thriller Film Opening to go by. The Jump Cuts where also another large issue of this filming as it wasn't smooth enough when we watched it back. It made our filming look quite ammature and unrealistic. When we film in the future the Mise en Scene will be more Aslyum looking and the Jump Cuts will only occur if we want them to.

Analysis of Film Advertisement

Today i picked up a Newspaper and as i read it, i noticed various Film Advertisements. This one particular stood out for me as its very eye grabbing. Once i finished reading the paper i figured that i might as well post a blog about it! :)

The main colour of this advertisement is a deep red. This connotes both Danger and Love. As a viewer i straight away assume that the Genre of this film is a Horror/Romance. As the man in this film is wearing a Red Hoody, i assume that he may be a danger to the girl behind him in the white top. By having the contrast of the two characters in different clothing shows that the girl is innocent whereas the man is dangerous. The Proxemics of the both characters make me believe that the Genre has an element of Romantic in it as they are close and they are of different sexes. The fact that the man is slouching conveys that he may be unaware that he is a danger to the girl with her back straight looking over her shoulder behind the man. The man looks very intriguing as he has a grey complexion which shows that he may be suffering from an illness or have some type of disease or be some type of Supernatural Being. This creates to horror side to the Genre as he looks quite scary and menacing.

Pitch Powerpoint Feedback

The Feedback that we got from our Pitch was very useful.

Mary liked the idea that we want a Voice Over played throughout the opening scene.

She suggested the idea that we should have Signs/Posters of Broadmoor Hospital and the NHS around where we are filming to create more Mise en Scene. We like this idea and will be using it for our Thriller Film Opening.

Mary also suggested that we should have beddings in the rooms we are filming in to create more of a Aslyum feel to our Mise en Scene. It will be a struggle for us to get beds in and out of the college so we have decided to push chairs together and get white sheets to throw over them to create the Beds. This will hoepfully have the same affect on the audience than what the beds would.
Overall, Mary liked our ideas for our Thriller Film opening and we will be going ahead with everything we have decided. We are looking forward to start filming our opening to our best ability.
