Our Target Audience

As our Film will be a Horror/Thriller we would set the age rating as a 15 therefore the film will be aimed at people who are aged 15 and over.

We will also target both Men and Women as our audience. We feel that both can relate to the film as it is based around a young girl but it's a thriller and as shown through research, Men prefer Thriller films over women.

Our Ideas for our Thriller Film Opening.

1. We want it to be based in a type of Mental Asylum where a girl lives with other Mental People. This will be Sub - Genre as it will be a mixture of Thriller and Horror (a Horror Thriller).

 

Plot:

• She wakes up and finds herself in a mental Asylum with her Teddy Bear.
• She then opens the different doors trying to find her purpose, there she discovers other Mental People.
• She then opens the last door and drops her Teddy Bear.
• She then Cries Blood.

Roles:

Bradley - Filming.
Reanne - Acting as the main girl with her Teddy Bear.
Kavita - Another mental person in the institution.

2. We would like to use intertextuality where we take some scenes from the Stepfather (2009) and make it our own.

 

Plot:

• He is leaving the house and decides to make himself a cup of coffee.
• Whilst doing this he turns on the Radio like any other day.
• We then discover two dead women in the house.
• He then picks up his bag to leave.
• He has a quick Flash-Back about the killing.
• Then he finally leaves the house.

Roles:

Reanne - Filming/Dead Girl.
Bradley - Acting as the 'Stepfather'.
Kavita - Filming/Dead Girl.

Analysis of prelim clip

I have learnt a lot from our prelim clip. Overall i dont think that our clip was to good we made a few basic mistakes, but me and the group have learnt from those mistakes.

First mistake i noticed was right at the beginning of our clip, the shot was blurry we needed to adjust the camera to  clearer shot. Our match cut of the hand was pretty good it went in well with the clip. After we had a change in camera shot from behind to front, the mistake we made there was that kavita was in the shot from behind at the door but she wasnt there in the shot from the front. The noise in the background was of students in our college since we filmed it in their, we couldnt edit that out without editing the dialogue of the characters. 

When kavita and i sat down, the next shot was kavita standing up pouring a cup of drink. The two shots didnt go together, the shots were to jumpy. We also placed the chairs near the window wear there was too much light and the characters looked like shadows. The next match cut of the dropped cup didnt really fit in with the clip it wasnt timed to well. Also with the conversation between me and kav we could have got a reverse shot of the conversation and that also would have helped with the lighting situation. Finally there was another jump cut of kavita sitting down and then laying on the floor again didnt go to well in the clip. 

Me and the group however learn  lot from this.

Analysis of a Student Thriller Opening - MORTIFER

CAMERA : There was a point in the video where there was a big close up on the watch this makes the audience aware that the watch is something significant but also shows how the watch may mean the character has an eye on the time as he/she may need to be with someone or do something at a particular time.When the killer came to kill the victim , a low angle shot was used to show the killer to be more powerful.

EDITING:  At the beginning of the thriller opening a cross cut is used , at the start there was a guy in sitting on a bench in a opened spaced park when it moved on to a guy roaming around  in a children's park .This suggests there is a connection between the two situations but it also creates suspense as the audience will question what the link could be between the two situations.
A reverse shot is used when the two characters were talking on the phone , this shows the emotions and facial expressions of both characters but also carries on as a normal day , it builds the suspense for the audience.


MISE EN SCENE: Throughout the opening the seems to be natural lighting hence the fact the location is outdoors , to be particular the locations are mainly in parks but there are contrasts in the park as one is   an empty , open spaced park this illustrates the maturity in the character , however on the other hand the scenery is a children's park therefore shows the character uses this place to relax and meet up wit friends as every teenager does but it also suggests this may not be a usual place to be surrounded by danger until....
The costume of the first character consists of a long black coat and scarf suggests something mysterious about the character  as if he has something to hide. The other two characters are casually dressed therefore means they believe its a normal day ahead
The prop used is the gun which is the main element and also relates to danger as this prop was used to kill.

SOUND: At the point where the girl answers her phone, diegetic sound is used this could be to create an element of reality and it also gives the audience the urge to tell the character something terrible is about to happen.
Towards the end sound effects were  used this is when the gun shoots the bullet and a type of explosion sound is  then used.

• The rule states that the camera should remain the same side of an imaginary line 
• The line is drawn perpendicular to the camera's viewpoint in the establishing shot of the scene 
• The rule enforces continuity of the film 

An example - the car chase scene! This may get confusing but just imagine as this will help you understand it better! If the car is travelling from right to left, the next shot must be also shot from the same side , meaning the car has enter the frame from right to left. Got that....!

My Analysis of Our Prelim Clip

We where successfully able to do all the Camera Angles (Match Cuts, Low Angle Shots, Medium Shots, Close Ups) that we needed to so we could establish the content correctly and do the task correctly.

We need to work on getting the shots which we filmed to run smoothly so that no Jumps occur within our filming whereas in our Prelim Clip a few Jumps occur therefore the film comes across as quite inadequately done. We also didn't manage to use Reverse Shots. In the first 20 Seconds of our Prelim Clip the focus on the camera isn't clear therefore the film looks quite blurry and its not as clear as the other parts of the Prelim Clip. In the future we will always make sure that the camera is on a clear focus before we start filming so all the film comes out looking the same and in place. When our actors are speaking, it is interfired with background noise therefore its a struggle to hear them speak. When we where filming, there was other groups filming in the same area as us which made the noise that they where making interfire with our Prelim Clip. When we start to film our Thriller opening we will make sure that no background noise occurs in our piece.

By making our Prelim Clip i've learned errors that are very easy to make for example, Not focusing the Camera before filming, Therefore the small errors that we have made now make me weary for when we start filming our Thriller opening. These small errors will not be made. I've also learned how Sound can create a different feel to our Prelim Clip and also convey different emotions for the audience to feel. I've learned that when we are filming, we need to make the Clips more precise so that they fit well with each other to avoid any jumps. I didn't realise that the Jumps can make a Film look very ammature until we watched our Prelim Clip through fully on Final Cut Pro.

When we next film we will choose a better area to film to avoid any unneccassary background noise which interfiers with our piece. We will also make sure that all the cuts in our piece run smoothly to avoid any messy jump cuts. We will use more props to make our filming look more realistic. We will film in a better location so that the audience get more of a feel about the Mise en Scene and can relate it to the content of the film and what we are trying to portray.

Overall i really enjoyed filming our Prelim Clip and will definantly want to film again. I am proud to be able to be a part of it.
